Johannah Maria Nielsen was born October 15, 1990, the ninth of her mothers 10 children and a long awaited little sister. Tormented by her seven brothers and adored by her older sister Hannah grew up surrounded by music. At the tender age of 3 Hannah began taking piano and violin lessons from Suzuki teacher, Esther Larsen. She continued the violin with Esther Larsen but began to study piano under the instruction of her older sister at the age of nine. It was around this time that a dream began to form for Hannah.
After attending her first live Jon Schmidt concert Hannah told her sister that when she grew up her dream was to see a book of her music sitting on the shelf of the music store right next to Jon Schmidts! She began to experiment with writing her own music and it didn’t take long for everyone around her to recognize her talent. She soon was taking requests from friends and family members to write songs specifically for them. She wrote songs for weddings, funerals, birthdays and just for fun.
Currently Hannah continues her study of the Piano both as a student and as a teacher with Suzuki teacher trainer Cleo Brimhall and continues her Violin Study under Elizabeth Burton. Hannah has had numerous opportunities to perform and has won many awards. Most notably is a 75 point Gold Cup from the National Federation of Music Clubs in piano and a 60 point cup in Violin. Under the rules of the federation a student who performs a piece of their choice and a required piece chosen from a list each year is given a rating of their performance. These ratings can earn them up to five points in a year with a Superior rating earning five points. Once a student has earned 15 points they are awarded a gold cup. Students must advance to the next level of difficulty each year to participate. This means that it takes a minimum of 15 years to earn a 75 point cup and since students may only participate until they are 18 very few students even on a national level have ever earned this honor.
Hannah recently returned from Japan where she participated in an international 10 piano Concert. She continues to find enjoyment in sharing her music with others in performance, with her own written music and most recently with her piano students that she adores.
